Drea de Matteo, arguably most known for playing the role of Adriana La Cerva on the HBO crime-drama series The Sopranos (1999), has revealed that she was offered a role in a Marvel project. However, she ultimately turned it down. Besides Adriana, De Matto has portrayed Wendy Case on Sons of Anarchy, Angie Bolen on Desperate Housewives, Tess Nazario on Shades of Blue, and Iris Ferry on Assault on Precinct 13.
The Sopranos’ Drea de Matteo cites having ‘enough money’ as reason she rejected Marvel role
De Matteo explained in a recent interview that she rejected the Marvel role because of responsibilities associated with motherhood and having “enough money.” De Matteo has two children with her ex Shooter Jennings — Alabama Gypsy Rose and Waylon “Blackjack” Jennings.
“I was offered some Marvel thing, and I turned that down because my son was crying every time I’d go to Canada to just guest star on something,” De Matteo told Variety. “And I was like, ‘F— it. I’m not gonna do it. I have enough money to get us through the winter.’ I don’t want to be this Hermes-toting, Gucci shoe-wearing person. I just didn’t give a s—. I mean, I wear sweatpants and T-shirts all day.”
In July 2024, De Matteo sparked controversy after she revealed during her appearance on the Not Today, Pal podcast that her 13-year-old son edited her OnlyFans photos. “No. But they [her children] don’t see the girl shots. But I do go over that with them before I ever put them out,” she clarified. “I was like, ‘Are you OK with this?’ Because it’s like, if I were to do it in a movie, because I would make out with girls in movies all day long before I’d even make out with boys.” (via Fox News)
Notably, De Matteo has mentioned in multiple interviews how her OnlyFans profile helped her negate financial troubles. She mentioned that again in the above-mentioned conversation with Variety and discussed, among other things, her political affiliation and the war in Ukraine.
