In a February 2024 interview with The Minnesota Star Tribune, O’Connell detailed how close he and Leah were to Kirk Cousins. Cousins was the Vikings’ quarterback at the time, and his family. “We love his family,” O’Connell told the outlet. “My family and his family are close. So then we come here two years ago. And Kirk was a huge reason why I thought so highly, amongst a lot of things, about the Minnesota Vikings opportunity, because of my belief in him.”

Leah reportedly works in sales at Panacea Scientific. She attended San Diego State University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication. Like her husband, Leah was a student-athlete and played Volleyball for San Diego State.

All these amazing and tangible qualities that you hope for in a husband and father and coach and anybody that’s going to be contributing to building up and encouraging other people,” she added.
