The ending of Maggie and Negans rescue mission clearly set the stage for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2, showing that the Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan-led TWD spinoff has plenty more story left to tell. The very premise of Dead City, a trip to Manhattan to rescue Maggies son, created the impression that a six-episode story was all the Walking Dead spinoff needed. Now that the first season is over, its clear that Maggie and Negans journey in Manhattan is intended to be much more than a miniseries.
