Although Percy is depicted as dead in Vox Machina, fans remain hopeful for his return.
In the seventh episode of Vox Machina, titled Cloak and Dagger, Percy faces a brutal death. He is shot by his enemy Anna Ripley, and despite his team finding him, it’s too late. This event sends shockwaves through the group.
Although Percy’s death seems final, Vox Machina fans are not ready to give up on him just yet. The series is based on the popular Critical Role campaign, and in Episode 69 of the original series, Percy is resurrected after a similar death. In Critical Role, Percy’s teammates used magic to sever his connection to Orthax, the demon influencing him, bringing him back to life at Pike’s temple. This storyline has led fans to believe that if Percy really died in Vox Machina Season 3, it may not be permanent either.
While Critical Role’s campaign builds hope, voice actor Laura Bailey, who plays a major role in the series, hinted at a different outcome this time in an interview with Polygon. She stated, ”In the campaign, we were able to bring him back very quickly, but I think that can be something that loses its gravity if you’re constantly able to revive somebody who has died over and over again. So in order to make us sit with it and experience that grief, I think it needed to be extended.”
Further, the producer and actor Travis Willingham confirmed that they wanted Percy’s death to feel significant. Additionally, the Vox Machina series is shown seemingly different from the campaign, which means even Percy’s role might be different. Nevertheless, viewers need to wait for the upcoming episodes to disclose Percy’s fate.
