Cynthia Erivo, set to play Elphaba in the new Wicked movie, wasn’t too happy about a new fan-made film poster that popped up on the internet, subsequently expressing her discontent. Accordingly, fans are curious about this latest situation and wish to learn more about it.

Here is everything you need to know about Cynthia Erivo’s criticism of the fan-made Wicked movie poster.

Cynthia Erivo criticizes fan-made poster of ‘Wicked’ movie

Cynthia Erivo recently took to her Instagram stories to criticize a fan-edited poster of the ‘Wicked’ movie. This poster, made by fan page Wicked Mexico Fans, is remarkably different from the official poster. Her hat covers Elphaba’s eyes in the fan-edited poster. Moreover, her lipstick is tainted red, strikingly similar to her depiction in the Wicked Broadway musical poster. In contrast, her eyes are shown in the official poster, and the red lipstick is replaced by dark green. The fan-made poster, however, retains Glinda‘s appearance from the official version without any changes.

The Elphaba actress penned a note calling the poster the “wildest, most offensive thing” she saw. She compared it to other bad things she saw or heard related to the movie, like an “awful Ai” of her and Glinda fighting and people asking her inappropriate questions about her privates. Here, she also mentioned that the original Wicked Broadway musical poster was only an illustration and that showing her face in the official poster was a deliberate choice made by her.

“Our poster is an homage not an imitation, to edit my face and hide my eyes is to erase me, And that is just deeply hurtful,” she said.

Erivo subsequently reposted the official poster with the following harsh caption. Putting the fan who made the fan-edited poster in their place, she wrote:

“Let me put this right here, to remind you and cleanse your palette.”

It is unsurprising that the fan-edited poster quickly caught Cynthia Erivo’s attention. The fan page tagged the actress when uploading the poster on Instagram.
