My Old Ass, a quirky new coming-of-age movie now streaming on Amazon Prime, follows young Elliott (Maisy Stella) on the precipice of her adult life as she navigates questions of identity, familial relationships, and romantic interests. All of this becomes much more complicated when she trips on mushrooms alongside her two best friends and seemingly hallucinates the older version of herself, played by Aubrey Plaza. Although the My Old Ass ending leaves the exact nature of Older Elliott’s existence somewhat ambiguous, her accurate predictions and the fact that other characters can see her suggest, somehow, Older Elliott is real.
