British actor Phil Dunster, who’s best known for his role as Jamie Tartt in Ted Lasso, has finally found his next major TV project, after the acclaimed Apple TV+ series concluded its three-season run last year. HBO has officially enlisted Dunster to join the cast of its upcoming untitled Steve Carell comedy show. Further details about his character remained under wraps.
For his performance in the final season of Ted Lasson, Dunster earned his first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Besides the new HBO show, he will also next be seen in the second season of Apple TV+’s psychological thriller series Surface, as well as in the Prime Video rom-com movie Picture This.
Who is involved in the untitled Steve Carell comedy show?
The untitled Steve Carell comedy is executive produced by veteran TV producers Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso) and Matt Tarses (Scrubs), who are also writing the first episode. In addition to leading the cast, Carell will executive produce alongside Liza Katzer and Jeff Ingold. It is a production by Warner Bros. Television.
“The show is a single-camera comedy set on a college campus, centering on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter,” reads the logline.
This marks Carell’s latest major TV project after recently signing on to star opposite Tina Fey in the Netflix series The Four Seasons. Following his iconic performance as Michael Scott in The Office, Carell was able to show off his skills in the drama genre, thanks to his appearances on The Morning Show and The Patient. Prior to his upcoming HBO comedy, he previously headlined Netflix’s short-lived workplace comedy Space Force.
