On Wednesday, Kamala Harris delivered her concession speech before a roaring crowd after losing the presidential race against Donald Trump. While addressing the large gathering, Harris mentioned she conceded to the president-elect via phone call earlier that day and opened up about their brief exchange.

Trump, who served in office as the 45th president, will return to the White House on January 20, 2025, at the presidential inauguration. The 78-year-old secured a historic victory against Harris and the Democratic party after clinching swing states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina.

Kamala Harris said she will help Donald Trump with the transition

In her concession speech, Kamala Harris revealed she conceded to Donald Trump on a call earlier that day before addressing the crowd. At first, Harris urged her supporters to “accept the results of this election” and also acknowledged how they must be “feeling and experiencing a range of emotions right now.” She continued, “Earlier today, I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory.” The Vice President claimed she also “told him that we will help him and his team with their transition and that we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power.”

Harris then highlighted the “fundamental principle of American democracy” in her following statements. She remarked, “When we lose an election, we accept the results,” claiming that this “principle, as much as any other, distinguishes democracy from monarchy or tyranny, and anyone who seeks the public trust must honor it.” In addition, Harris reminded the American people that “we owe loyalty not to a president or a party, but to the constitution of the United States and loyalty to our conscience and to our God.”

Kamala Harris maintained that despite conceding this election, she will continue “the fight that fueled this campaign.” Elaborating, she said this is “the fight for freedom, for opportunity, for fairness and the dignity of all people.” The Democratic party nominee continued that she would never “give up” the fight to secure the future, rights, and safety of Americans.
