The Argentine public prosecutor’s office clarified that one of the charged individuals regularly accompanied Payne during his stay. Prosecutors have accused this individual of abandoning Payne during a vulnerable moment. They also charged a hotel employee with supplying Payne with cocaine on two occasions. Additionally, authorities charged a third suspect with providing narcotics on October 14, just two days before Payne’s death.
The toxicology tests conducted during the investigation revealed traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in Payne’s system. These substances were present within the last 72 hours before his death. The autopsy confirmed that Payne’s cause of death was “multiple trauma” and “internal and external hemorrhage” from the fall. Medical reports indicated he may have been semi or totally unconscious during the fall, ruling out self-harm or third-party intervention.
Following Payne’s passing, his father, Geoff Payne, traveled to Argentina to collect his body to transport it back to the U.K. His death has caused immense grief among fans and loved ones, with tributes pouring from across the world, including from former bandmates and family. Authorities continue their investigation, collecting testimonies from hotel staff and acquaintances. They also examined Payne’s personal belongings and security footage from the hotel.
