Law & Order wrote out Kate Dixon after Camryn Manheim left the series. Manheim had been part of the Law & Order cast for the first three years of the reboot. Her character was the head of the homicide unit, and she spent most of her time in the squad room directing her detectives as to how to investigate the case. However, she occasionally had a personal connection or other reason for participating directly in an investigation.
