Tom Hanks reflects on when he thought he might be getting fired from Forrest Gump. Hanks’ performance as the titular character was critically acclaimed and won him his second Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. Forrest Gump also marked the first of many Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis collaborations, with the actor and director also working together on Cast Away, The Polar Express, Disney’s live-action remake of Pinocchio, and Here, the last of which saw them reuniting with Robin Wright.
