A real astronaut explains how Apollo 13 perfectly depicts the aborted 1970 lunar mission. Directed by Ron Howard, the 1995 film follows the aborted lunar mission in which an explosion on board Apollo 13 cripples the spacecraft, severely reducing the oxygen supply and electrical power. As a result, NASA’s flight controllers abandon plans for a Moon landing and quickly devise creative scientific and mechanical solutions to bring the three astronauts home safely. The movie stars Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris and Kathleen Quinlan.
