Isabelle Fuhrman is returning to the Orphan horror franchise, with Variety reporting that Orphan 3 is in development. The star of the first two is set to reprise her now-iconic role.
What do we know about Orphan 3?
The movie will not only see Fuhrman return to play the iconic role of Esther, but also see writer David Coggeshall and director William Brent Bell also return from the sequel, 2022’s Orphan: First Kill. The film will be produced by Dark Castle Entertainment, with Lionsgate looking for distributors at the upcoming American Film Market.
“Dark Castle is excited to announce another terrifying chapter in the ‘Orphan’ saga,” said Norman Golightly, Co-CEO of Dark Castle Entertainment. “With the past success of the first two movies and another thrilling storyline, we are confident that ‘Orphan 3’ will be a must-see movie for both current fans of the franchise, and new fans alike.”
Plot details for the third movie are being kept under wraps as of now, although it’ll likely focus on Fuhrman’s Esther once again trying to infiltrate a family to keep her identity a secret.
The original Orphan movie came out in 2009, and starred Fuhrman in the role of Esther, a woman posing as a young girl who is adopted by a family. The sequel, released in 2022, saw Fuhrman return for the role, with the movie utilizing a series of tricks to keep the perspective that Fuhrman was still a young child.
“In the film, after orchestrating a brilliant escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility, Esther travels to America by impersonating the missing daughter of a wealthy family,” reads the synopsis for 2022’s Orphan: First Kill. “Yet, an unexpected twist arises that pits her against a mother who will protect her family from the murderous “child” at any cost.”
