There’s a sense in which the streaming boom really began back in 2011, when Netflix began commissioning original content in a move to reduce its dependence on licensing agreements. Stranger Things season 1 immediately became one of Netflix’s biggest successes, the third most-watched season of Netflix original content at the time – behind Fuller House season 1 and Orange is the New Black season 4.
