Mission: Impossible 8 could be the franchise’s final installment. The blockbuster film series starring Tom Cruise as superspy Ethan Hunt kicked off in 1996. Beginning with the fourth installment, 2011’s Ghost Protocol, Cruise has used the franchise as a springboard for increasingly high-octane real-life stunts, including hanging on to the side of a jet plane and climbing the Burj Khalifa. Partially propelled by these notorious stunts, the movies have earned more than $4 billion. The franchise is already set to continue in 2025 with the upcoming Mission: Impossible 8, helmed by returning director Christopher McQuarrie.
