Many baseball fans are wondering what happened to Austin Capobianco, a Yankees fan who was ejected from Game 4 of the 2024 World Series. In the first inning of the game held on Tuesday, October 29, Capobianco and his friend John Peter forcibly grabbed a foul ball from the glove of the Dodgers’ Mookie Betts. Despite the ball being ruled an out, some are hailing Capobianco as a hero while others want to see him banned outright. Here’s whether the 38-year-old Austin Capobianco has received any official disciplinary action by the Yankees or the MLB.

Has Yankees fan Austin Capobianco been banned?

Austin Capobianco, along with John Peter, has reportedly been banned from attending Game 5 on Wednesday, October 30.

This is according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, who was told by a league source that the MLB instructed the Yankees to bar both fans. However, it’s unclear whether this ban will be extended to future games in the World Series or perhaps even games next season.

This is an unexpected reversal from what ESPN reported on Tuesday. At the time, Capobiano said he would be allowed to be back for Game 5 without any repercussion. This was despite him knowing that he was “in the wrong” and understood that he and his friend would be ejected from the game for his action.

After Tuesday’s match, Betts pushed the incident with Capobianco aside, saying that “when it comes to the person in play, it doesn’t matter” and that he was focusing on Wednesday’s game instead.

That said, calls for Capobianco to be banned were posted on X by various fans and analysts, and it looks like the MLB agrees.

Coincidentally, Capobianco was recognized by former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski, nicknamed “Gronk,” who revealed on the Up & Adams podcast that they were friends in college. He said that Capobianco was part of the Arizona Wildcats hockey team, who he describes as being “wild” and “animals.” Indeed, a 2007 article by The Daily Wildcat mentions Capobianco as a senior defenseman on the hockey team.
