The Scary Movie reboot that was announced earlier this year is officially getting some help from the franchise’s original creators as the Wayans brothers are returning to write the new project.

In a recent post on Instagram, Marlon Wayans shared a photo of himself and the satirical version of the Ghostface killer from the Scary Movie franchise. In the post, Wayans said that the Wayans brothers would be returning to the franchise, and are “looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.” In an official statement to Deadline on the news, Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Wayans all said they are looking forward to getting back to work.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again,” said the brothers in a statement. “This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

The Wayans brothers have been integral to the Scary Movie franchise since its inception. The original 2000 movie was directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, and written by Shawn and Marlon, alongside Buddy Johnson, Phil Beauman, Jason Friedberg, and Aaron Seltzer. Keenen would also direct the film’s sequel in 2001, with Shawn and Marlon starring in that as well as the first.

What do we know about the new Scary Movie?

As of now, there’s no word on whether or not the movie will see any cast members from the original set of movies reprising their roles. Four of the original five Scary Movie films starred Anna Faris and Regina Hall, with Marlon and Shawn Wayans also appearing in two of the five.

The first Scary Movie premiered in 2000, and was a slasher parody film that spoofed a variety of films, including Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. The franchise quickly grew, with a sequel in 2001, a third film in 2003, a fourth in 2006, and finally a fifth in 2013, which featured a mostly new cast.

The Scary Movie franchise was wildly successful during its initial run, earning more than $890 million in total at the worldwide box office. The success of the films also kickstarted a large wave of parody films mocking other genres, with films like Superhero Movie, Meet the Spartans, Epic Movie, and more.
