It’s become common practice for movies to add a romantic subplot, but these narratives can often pull focus from a movie’s good qualities and halt the momentum. In some cases, a bad romantic subplot can even spoil a movie that initially shows a lot of promise. Action, sci-fi, fantasy and comedy movies can all shoehorn a romance in. The idea is that romance can provide a change of pace and a different kind of drama, but this doesn’t always work out.
