The new season of Blue Lock has been thoroughly criticized for the style and quality of its animation. Departing from the prior seasons style, this season involved almost rave-like coloring and distortion effects that are somewhat baffling and distracting from a viewer’s perspective. To make matters worse, transitions reminiscent of a PowerPoint presentation are frequent, and single frames are often drawn out with simple pans or visual effects to represent what should be dynamic movement. It’s clear Blue Lock’s production studio, Eight Bit, was overloaded by their tight deadlines and high demand to produce both a Blue Lock movie and a second season of the show back to back, and that the television anime got the short end of that stick.
